HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI

Jerry Pickering has been teaching for eighteen years in the public schools of Mississippi. The 2019-2020 school year will be Mr. Pickering's second year as the Director of Bands at Oak Grove High School. Mr. Pickering has previously taught at Northwest Rankin High School (2014-2018), Northwest Rankin Middle School (2006-2014), Philadelphia High School (2005-2006), and Pearl River Central High School (2001-2006). He received his Bachelor of Music Education from Mississippi State University (2001) and his Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida (2017). Mr. Pickering is a member of Phi Beta Mu (Delta Chapter), the National Band Association, the Mississippi Bandmasters Association, and the Southeast Mississippi Band Directors Association. Mr. Pickering is a Past President of the East Central Mississippi Band Directors Association and he is currently serving as the President of the Mississippi Bandmasters Association.

James Crocker has been teaching band in Mississippi for eight years. Originally a native of Theodore, Alabama, he is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees. Mr. Crocker is the primary director for the Oak Grove Middle School Band where he conducts the Seventh Grade Band and teaches high brass in sixth and seventh grade. Prior to teaching at Oak Grove, Mr. Crocker taught at Germantown High School and at Southaven High School. Mr. Crocker is a member of the Mississippi Bandmasters Association and the Southeast Mississippi Band Directors Association and he has previously served on the Executive Board of the DeSoto County Band Directors Association. Mr. Crocker is married to Lori Crocker and they live in Hattiesburg with their son Andrew.

Jerin Harrison is in his fourth year at Oak Grove High School. Mr. Harrison conducts the Oak Grove High School Concert Band and teaches sixth and eighth grade brass at Oak Grove Middle School. Mr. Harrison was a member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 2009-2013 and he served as Assistant Drum Major during the 2013 season. Mr. Harrison has served as an educator and administrator for The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps. A native of Hernando, Mississippi, Mr. Harrison holds a Bachelor of Music Education from The University of Mississippi. He is a member of the National Band Association, the Southeast Mississippi Band Directors Association, and the Mississippi Bandmasters Association. Mr. Harrison actively performs in the Hattiesburg area as a tubist and as a member of the Southern Miss Steel Pan Orchestra (SoMissPo).

Zachary Hassell is a native of Pensacola, FL and is in his ninth year of teaching with the Oak Grove Band Program. Mr. Hassell conducts the Eighth Grade Band Concert Band and teaches all of the woodwind classes at Oak Grove Middle School. Mr. Hassell directs and coordinates the Oak Grove High School Color Guard and Winter Guard program and the Color Guard for the Pride of Mississippi at the University of Southern Mississippi. He holds professional memberships in the Southeast Mississippi Band Directors Association and the Mississippi Bandmasters Association. Mr. Hassell is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees. 

Zachary Hassell

David (D.J.) Louviere is in his sixth year of teaching at Oak Gove. A native of Houma, Louisiana, Mr. Louviere is the Director of Percussion at Oak Grove High School including the Oak Grove Indoor Percussion. Under his direction, OGHS Indoor Percussion holds the following titles: 2015 & 2016 MIA Class A State Champions, 2016 and 2017 WGI Percussion World Championships Class A Fan Favorite, 2016 WGI Percussion World Championships Class A Silver Medalists, as well as 2017 5th place finalist. Mr. Louviere served on the WGI Advisory Board in 2016 and 2017. Mr. Louviere received his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2013. While at USM he was Percussion Section Leader for the Pride of Mississippi and was a member of the Wind Ensemble. In 2016 Mr. Louviere was named Star Teacher at Oak Grove High School.
